SESSION IN REVIEW: Representation that's working for you
Fri 3 Jul 2009
The job of an MP is to represent you in the House of Commons - to say the things that you would say if you were in Parliament yourself. That is the essence of representation.
Mountain MP Chris Charlton has taken that responsibility seriously. You can count on her to stand up for you and your family.
Just take a look at the numbers: In the most receent Session of Parliament, Chris introduced 5 bills and spoke 20,238 words. That puts Chris in the top quintile of all Members in the House. By contrast, Conservative MP David Sweet from Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale, was the least active of all the Hamilton MPs, introducing no bills and speaking a mere 1,860 words in the 5 months session.
While quantity is not the same as quality, in Chris’s case they appear be synonymous. In a spring survey conducted by the Hill Times, Chris was voted runner-up in the category of hardest working constituency MP by 308 MPs and political staff from all parties. Clearly, Chris has earned the respect of MPs on all sides of the House.
